      SMU is a well respected institution that offers a beautiful campus and intelligent, professional faculty/staff as colleagues.

      Cons

      High turnover among colleagues and leadership. Also, few advancement opportunities once one reaches a certain level.

      University life is laid back, but pay is poor and lots of red tape

      Relaxed work enviroment. Great 403b retirement plan, 8% match for your 5% Tuition benefit 100% (still pay taxes on anything over $5,250) Cheap fitness center membership Full week off for Christmas

      Cons

      Poor pay Red tape Many people have worked here for 10-20 years and will not change any procedures Poor cross department communication Very few vacation days but a lot of sick leave

      - better pay than other local universities - Excellent benefits (retirement and tuition) - great student body -beautiful work environment, manicured campus - friendly co-workers - work environment that encourages learning - good work/life balance

      Cons

      - most departments are small, so growth opportunity is limited - earning potential is limited (but welcome to higher ed :) - departments are typically territorial of information and relationships
