Pros

The mission of this organization is admirable.

Cons

The vision of this organization is owned by Intermountain Healthcare. Jobs at many levels are being replaced by friends from Utah. If you are good at politics and want to work for an organization where the end justifies the means, then SSM is a good place to work. If you are in it to make a difference then expect others to take credit for your work. Self-promotion is the name of the game. Bottom line: the culture of SSM is not much different then most large for-profit company out there. Don't believe otherwise. Bedside care is likely better depending on manager's ability to shield you from it.

Pros

I enjoyed the people that I worked with, the work itself was okay. Just a lot of scanning and picking up physical medical documents and consent forms. Then we would scan them into the system and ensure that the right patient is being identified on each document.

Cons

Unsure of this field in the future as many documents are available electronically to sign now instead of physical paper documents. Not sure if there is a need for associates like us anymore. Did not feel that there was room for a promotion, the next step up would be go to back to school for medical coding I suppose.

Disappointing & Frustrating

Pros

My direct supervisor is a very fair, genuine and kind man who always treats me with respect. I’ve learned a lot from him. He is the type of supervisor SSM should want for all their employees.

Cons

Non-collaborative environment. I can’t tell you how many emails I send out to other team members that have never responded. If your program requires collaboration with other departments you may as well forget it. I’ve been here three years with no “fun” department lunches or collaboration as a team. Quarterly team meetings are routinely canceled. Benefits keep getting worse. Major reduction in PTO. No more EMTO for sick time. Apparently we encourage people to come to work and share their germs. Completely behind the times in what employees want and need in an employer. I foresee ongoing employee turnover.
