Pros

Honestly the work for the pay is pretty excellent considering you aren't required to have a degree. Plus you can learn a lot about healthcare and areas you might want to go into while working this position.

Cons

It's a necessity role, so sometimes you are stuck at work until someone gets there to relieve you. Holidays off are also very rare.

Decent base pay. Incredibly resilient and hardworking coworkers.

Cons

SSM continues to decline in quality of care, patient outcomes and staff satisfaction as it places far more emphasis on healthcare as a profitable business. Despite claims offering a shared governance model, employees input no longer matters. Benefits are cut regularly. Patient to nurse ratios are unsafe. Experienced staff is not valued and turnover is extremely high. What once was the shining star of the SSM system, St Marys Hospital- Madison has sadly been dragged down to the mediocrity of the rest of the SSM system at the hands of the corporate overlords in St Louis dictating from afar.

Decent pay and willing to work with my schedule as a full-time student

Cons

If you called in sick, they took hours away from your PTO without notifying you of doing so (yes, it's nice that you can get paid for the days you were sick, but it's inconvenient when you go to take time off and you don't have as many hours as you thought you did because of it), understaffed (going to be found in most healthcare facilities)
