Pros

This organization has two components....the patient care side is full of dedicated employees who are motivated by the Mission Statement and provide good quality care to patients. SSM Health is very employee centric which is both good and bad, they pay well and have decent benefits.

Cons

The other component consists of the administrative and back office functions. There is something fundamentally wrong with leadership. This organization is extremely top heavy...not something I expected for a "not-for-profit" system.. Too many leaders who are not willing to make a decision because they might be held accountable even though leaders and managers are not held accountable there. . HR rules with an iron fist and makes decisions without regard to cost or policy as long as it makes the employees happy....typically they take the path of least resistance and have little to no regard for what is best for the business. Finance, which is typically one of the stronger departments in any organization, is saddled with poor leadership....leaders who avoid confrontation, don't back their employees back and who tell staff members to leave if they don't like it there...they have no skills in motivating or engaging employees and no interest in learning how.

Toxic Work Environment

Pros

A new hospital opened in 2012, adjacent to clinic. Many co workers are the best thing about this place. The environment is new and clean. All patient rooms are private.

Cons

Revolving door of management and staff. Staff to patient ratio is low. Leadership has their heads in the sand as to why employee satisfaction scores are so low. A cesspool of gossip and rumors, like living in a soap opera. If patient safety issues are reported, you're likely to be fired, even though there is supposed to be a "non-punitive" culture. Because of this, employees are afraid to speak up and most are looking for other jobs, as am I. A stressful environment for sure. Wages are low in comparison to other hospitals and insurance benefits are higher than the competition. Most of the best care givers have gone elsewhere because they either couldn't stand the environment of distrust, deception and lies, or they were run off by inexperienced managers who were fearful of losing their own jobs. Worst place I've ever worked.

Do NOT work here

Pros

It allows me to pay my bills.

Cons

Starting in 2020, employees will have to use their vacation time to pay for holidays. For example, the business will be closed for the 4th of July, and I will have to use my vacation time to cover it. If I don't have enough vacation time set aside to cover it, I will get an occurrence (a bad mark). This is unethical, immoral, and downright offensive. I have to figure out when I'm going to be sick, when my kids will be sick, and make sure I have enough days saved up to cover holidays, since we "earn" our vacation days as we work. I have never had a company stoop this low, and I am looking for another job.
