The worst company I've ever worked for

Pros

Relatively relaxed atmosphere, but this was only because staff were paid so poorly that they lacked motivation.

Cons

- SSP's ethos is shameful. Extremely low pay (even by retail standards), bins all food waste, does not recycle. I was surprised they were allowed to engage in such practices. - Was working stationary in freezing temperatures with no heater. - Management and HR completely ignore all of your feedback and requests. - Uniform and discount card never arrive, even if you've worked there for in excess of a year. - Difficult to maintain a work/life balance when you have no set contracted hours and these change weekly.

Pros

- Good team members make it worth the while - If you love coffee, this is the place

Cons

- Management egos can ruin all - Pay is low, even for retail standards - You'll be lucky to get proper training. Again, depends on the people around you. - Not much in the way of career progression. - You are ultimately replaceable in the blink of an eye, due to heavy emphasis on sales numbers and nothing else.

Pros

The people. It's a job.

Cons

Very bad culture the top management not care about people only profit. The HR department spend most of their time dealing with hundreds of grievances and trying to protect the company from prosecution from poor practices because there is not enough people on the ground to run safely. Staff turnover is high as staff realise how the business runs. The CEO is famous for her reputation of running WHSmiths into the ground and has now done this with SSP. Short term gain long term will pay as company has a bad reputation. What next?
