Pros

Solid management tiers, providing great resources. Union backed, providing job security, a safety net, and a fantastic alternative source of communication and answers. Union also provides an alternative which can work with HR in order to resolve most issues quickly and efficiently. Solid pay scales, though they have been lengthened by recent contracts, it allows to climb up to better wages. An endless source of understanding to grow ones patience.

Cons

Customers have a habit of being rough, and can treat employees very harshly for little to no reason. Management can be over-stressed and over-worked, and create a hostile work place. The positive aspects of the store are almost entirely based upon the communication and attitude of the management. Shoplifting and theft at many stores is a constant, and can be... disheartening. Pay raises do exist, but they can take a long time to get through unless you get promoted to a P.I.C, where the upgrade to journeyman is immediate. Schedules are all over the place, it can be very difficult to have any idea what you will work from one week to the next. It is very often that when you call in sick, even if it is legitimate, due to other people who lie about it, that you may be interrogated regarding whether or not you are actually sick.

Laid off due to all Chicagoland area Dominick's store closings.

Pros

Stores were always clean and well stocked.

Cons

Over 6000 people lost their jobs due to 72 store closings because Safeway only wanted the money to offset taxes because of Canada store closings. No full time. Gave as minimum hours as possible. No raises for three years. Only when contracts were renewed. Their shareholders are more important. Very sad for people who were near retirement age, but could not yet collect any pension for many many years of dedicated employee service. Just cut our heads off.
