Pros

I enjoyed the interaction with the customers, and some of my co-workers were helpful and pleasant.

Cons

Poor management, very poor training, and unrealistic expectations for new employees. In the break room, all I heard were people complaining about their jobs. Also, I had to pay union dues from day #2, was let go on day #75 and the union was of no help to me, basically just took my money. Some policies and procedures were over the top,I was written up for clocking in 2 minutes early and I didn't even know that policy existed because I was never given a handbook. How can you follow a policy, if you don't know it exists?

Bottom of the barrel job

Pros

It's a job, so that's a pro I guess.

Cons

Terrible pay. No flexibility with hours. Minimal training. Laughable management. Lazy coworkers. Chronic understaffing. Significantly outdated technology. Mediocre employee benefits. I spend every day at this job wholly unsatisfied, confined to a checkstand every evening for an entire summer. I was never given a single weekend day off. I was allowed to work ONE morning shift during my entire time at Safeway. I had to put up with an immature supervisor that whined and complained about his job every single day, kissed the managers behind, and chewed out others for not working fast or hard enough. The store was understaffed every single day and customers complained about it regularly. Management made no effort to change scheduling to fix this. Coworkers regularly skipped work, leaving the store in complete disarray. The pay is a joke. I was getting the same money, adjusted for the rise in min wage, back when I was a courtesy clerk at Fred Meyer. Perfect example of a company that expects you to put in maximum effort with the least compensation possible.

Pros

Cannot think of one. Even the coworkers sucked because no one was happy about their job. This is the bottom of the barrel here.

Cons

Pay was so bad compared to other retail in the area, work schedule was never consistent, wanted you to work like you were more than just a minimum wage employee, raises were laughable, management was lazy and didn't train their employees leaving it to the people that worked on the floor. Employees would walk off the job and never return it was that bad. Had to get perfect secret shopper scores or were treated like scum by management. Just don't do it!
