Pros

- Health benefits and insurance (when you work 30 hours a week) - The option to cross-train in different departments - Wonderful floral department - The Starbucks kiosk was a great place to work - Recognized for my customer service skills - Generally nice customers - Generally nice co-workers

Cons

I've only been here for 4 months and I've had problems with this company since the day I started. I began as a courtesy clerk at 10 hours a week - if that. I must have called the store about 4 times a week for a full month, asking for hours. Since then, I've worked as a cashier, in the floral department, in the Starbucks kiosk, and was transferred to the "Safeway.com" department in mid-August at 40 hours. Working in ".com" is stressful, there is favoritism of lazy workers, and my hours were cut again, this time below 30. I was told that this was due to "seniority" in the department. I can't stay on the health insurance with less than 30 hours. I am entirely fed up with the cuts on my hours. I can't live on what this job is giving me. I really tried to stick with it, but to deal with issue after issue is not worth the headache.

Pros

-You learn how to deal with a high volume of angry customers. -They raise a decent amount of money for charities -You will learn to work really hard without needing the incentive of a reward.

Cons

-From the top down, no one cares about the employees. -You barely make enough to pay the rent, and if you have any issues with the management they cut your hours. -The union SUCKS because they are not proactive, and the reps are always on vacation. -Secret shopping is like standardized testing for adults, and we all know how well that's working out for our kids. -They are also a hugely wasteful company. It's difficult to work and barely make enough to buy your own food and then see them throw so much away. They don't discount anything, they just chuck it in the garbage. -You don't know your next week's schedule until a couple days before it starts, so balancing life and work, or another job that you probably need in order to pay your bills, is difficult. -Many of the customers have been hearing 'the customer is always right' from this company for too long, so they can be extremely rude and entitled. - You often have to work in other departments during your shift, but are still expected to get everything done in your department. They are always short handed so they can keep the hours down and pay less wages. Profit is their only goal, and you are their work monkey. The more they realize you can do, the more they will give you extra.

Pros

It's a job. Pay is good, but it's blood money.

Cons

Work hard and improve your store and numbers. Upper management will only ask for more while never acknowledging accomplishments. And they'll want more out of you while cutting your support staff. Numbers......numbers.....numbers. .....
