Pros

Good Benefits, good to work with the public. Good salary. The hours can be flexible if you need that.

Cons

Retail hours require long days, later shifts and holidays spent away from family. To be expected to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas is awful!! I see no reason why we need to be open on these days, Most customers I speak to are apalled that we are open. This decision is based completely on money, this sends a bad message to even our customers. I believe they would shop sooner and be prepared if we were to close. Maybe they think we deserve a holiday off. I think we do!

Pros

There are very few reasons to work at Safeway, one being that it looks great on a resume. The second being the 10% discount on all Safeway products.

Cons

Well, its nickname is Slaveway for a reason. They schedule you very little hours and expect you to get all of the jobs they assign to you done in three hours. I often would stay one hour or more over to finish my work (and I'm not slow). The whole time their complaining about how I should have it done by then. Well the reason its not done was incompetent employees the day before don't know how to do their job, so I have to do half of their job along with mine. I asked my Manager numerous times for more hours because I'm one of their better employees, did that happen? No, I ask for one day off and I get a while week off. Let me remind you that I can count on one hand the number of days I've taken off in a year. The pay is horrible because they can easily get some 16 year old dimwit off the street and he can do any job in the store. Or we can keep good employees and give them raises instead of this 50 cents an hour bonus on Sundays bulls**t. Why would I work two times harder than 3/4 of the employees in the store and still get the same pay? Safeway seriously needs to rethink their employee first profit second way of doing business. Oh, and we are REQUIRED to ask for donations to any special program that's going on or we get talked to by management and a "NO" on our shops. Ah, the things Safeway does to look good in the public eye. Needless to say there's a reason why I no-longer work there after one and a half years of hell.

Pros

Flexability!! This is the most flexable position I have looked at. We are allowed to work out our own schedule with the other pharmacist in the store. We can do anything from 8hr shifts to 7 on 7 off. This is true the shining point for Safeway. May stay with them becuse of this.

Cons

Rediculous micromangement in certain issues. For example, all techs must use red ink. ? Dumb!.
