Pros

Flexible hours, great if there is a Safeway near you

Cons

15 minute breaks, co workers were rude, assistant manager was constantly making rude remarks, a lot to remember as a service checker

Pros

Growth potential, quick promotions if you truly want to stay with the company and basic common sense is all you need to succeed in any position.

Cons

Unless you manage to find a head clerk position, becoming a journeyman will take roughly 5 years after becoming a grocery clerk (checker level). There are very few reasons to even consider this job unless you intend to keep it as a career. With next to no pay raises and quicker increases in Union dues as well as the physical, social and mental demands, career potential is quickly becoming uncertain.

Pros

Great job if you like one on one interaction with customers. Since the merger in January 2015, I have noticed management giving more incentive to those who work on improving their customer service skills, and I have seen less favoritism.

Cons

Management rarely communicates with one another, too much micromanaging in all stores I have worked.
