Pros

The people. Co-workers for the most part are great and really want to do what they can to make a great experience for the patients that visit us.

Cons

The current upper management is clueless about what it takes to do the work we were hired for. They have forced out managers that care about their people enough to push back. They only care about what makes them look good to the Executive Leadership Committee. If that means salaried people have to work 50+ hours, so be it. Employee retention has been a "focus" for IS for years, but they keep using the same heavy handed tactics. They supposedly go to the teams to find a solution, but it's always let's add some superfluous garbage that solves nothing. We also go through managers at a clip of at least one new one every year with the most senior managers having less than 5 years with the division. The running joke is if you don't like your manager, don't worry you only have to wait a year or two and you'll have someone new. Right now everyone is on eggshells since the latest "not a reorg" that forced out numerous people, and another reorg just around the corner.

Pros

Great benefits, great community impact

Cons

Immature leadership practices, overall lack of respect for people (even though that's one of their leadership principles), lean management system is not employed at a level that is efficient or effective. It's really only used as a distraction since the executive leadership team is going to do what they want. Extremely political environment.

Pros

Good 401k and excellent health benefits. Most people here are nice and always willing to help.

Cons

Management within information services has been the most disconcerting aspect of working at salem health. High turn over, micro managers, dis-honest with their employees are just to name a few. When I first started my manager was good but was run off in less than a year.
