Pros
Health services are never going to go away, and Salem Hospital is committed to maintaining their competence in the field. While their Information Services department has some old parts to it, they are really committed to using new technologies and successfully phasing out old ones. The atmosphere was nice and the department had a good camaraderie. Really, the best reason to work for a hospital is that it is an area of work where you really are making a difference in people's lives. The work that you do saves and or makes people's lives better. Also, due to the bureaucratic nature of the company, it's a fairly stable career.
Cons
It is in Salem Oregon. Salem is not exactly the best place to live. Their internal software systems are a mess in some places. Which is one of the consequences of trying to modernize the internal information systems. Still though, it can be a pain in the ass trying to navigate some disparate systems during the course of your work. The people are nice enough, though the majority of employees are technologically illiterate and don't understand that Information Services has not a lot to do with whether or not your email account got a virus. Still, the doctors are nice enough to work with.
