Pros

• Salesforce has a strong external brand and large scale impact • many colleagues across disciplines, especially in product design and research, are deeply talented collaborative, and mission driven • internal mobility as possible in certain teams provide excellent mentorship and support • benefits and pay are generally competitive for the industry (if you're capable of knowing when you’re being low-balled)

Cons

• at certain levels product design is often featured as more of a service function and less of a strategic partner, though this is only within certain organizations • product and product designer collaboration very significantly by team. Some are open partners other exclude design from strategy conversations and delay decisions and offer no ownership clarity • cross-team dysfunction is not uncommon, which includes misalign product strategies and conflicting goals in groups like those in charge of the various marketing product portfolios • there is poor operational discipline within certain product design teams, such as lacking definitions from leadership on what should be tracked, and a lot is left up to teams to try to manage or shifted on a single individuals who have to take the brunt of the work of operationalizing the team, in addition to their actual delivery work so that their leaders don’t have to (and are not willing to guide or support, just criticize) • management inconsistency, especially where feedback often goes unacknowledged or doesn’t align with actions taken around an employee. For example, certain employees who are known to be toxic, are elevated while other employees who are known to be team players, but push back on internal politics, are often pushed to the side. Both of which don’t match any of the conversations taking place with said individuals and leadership within product design. Great insight survey results also don’t seem to be used in looking at poor performing leaders who score low repeatedly

Thank you for taking the time to share your candid reflections. We recognize that this feedback comes from a place of deep experience, care, and investment in Salesforce and we want to start by acknowledging that. Your concerns around feedback being ignored, toxic behavior being rewarded, uneven support for design, and lack of leadership accountability are illuminating and we are listening. While experiences can vary across teams, no one should feel dismissed, unsupported, or required to compensate for operational gaps without clear guidance or recognition. These behaviors and experiences are not aligned with our values or the culture we’ve created. We also hear your call for more clarity around roles and ownership, and for more rigorous, equitable performance management, especially at the leadership level. You’ve shared specific, actionable areas where we must do better, and we are committed to learning from this. If you have additional insights or details to share, you can report your experience anonymously through our third-party provider, EthicsPoint, at salesforce.ethicspoint.com (even as a former employee!). Thank you again for the impact you made during your time at Salesforce and for sharing your experience with us directly.
