Senior employment is encouraged, as well as pursuing a higher education. This makes an older worker feel valued after initial retirement.

Cons

Low wages. Sometimes you work more hours than you are being reimbursed for, or you might be asked to do something you are not qualified to do. This would be something a nurse's aide or a nurse is trained to do.

Pros

The training is great. I felt that I was helping people while working, that there was a real purpose and reason for working for the county. Great pay system and very friendly to report.

Cons

My department needed better communication to make everyone's jobs less confusing. The morale seemed low and people seemed very concerned about their jobs. The people did not need as tight of supervision as they were given. More trust for the employees to do their job.

Stable employment with good benefits.

Cons

Hard to move up into management (my opinion). While working for the County I earned a Management degree. I've applied for several managerial jobs within the County--no success. However, there are exceptions to this. Workers with connections (family or friends in high places) seem to get fast-tracked into management jobs.
