Pros

Opportunity to practice what I was trained to do was excellent, mostly because I pursued my own training in doing so. Training has improved in recent 2 years, however. The work, itself, is rewarding and varied.

Cons

No recognition of accomplishment or even of doing the job, as required. Opportunity for advancement is non-existant. If you wish to make suggestions for improvement, you will be ignored, at best. Management tends to treat the individual as irrelevant and easily replaceable. You are penalized if you work part time or less than an extra 30% or more over the hours you are paid to work. Working overtime is not recognized, either, however. Employees are used, exhausted and tossed away like dirty kleenex. Salud shows little to no respect to the employee.

Pros

You will have the opportunity to care for a lot of really sick and complicated patients, which is a great learning experience, as well as perform a lot of procedures. This is a great place to practice medical Spanish. You can qualify for loan repayment if you work here which helps a lot. Vacation/CME time, holiday time, and the CME stipend are generous, and Salud reimburses docs for their medical license and DEA number as well.

Cons

There are no employee reviews and management makes one-sided decisions without discussing them with employees--there is no communication between staff and the administration.. Employees are not treated fairly (there are varying degrees of work hours and salaries among employees with similar years of work experience), and there is general discontent in the workplace. Providers are expected to see a large number of patients daily while they simultaneously must supervise less experienced providers and medical students (further increasing burnout and providing a sub-optimal educational experience.) There is extensive provider turnover in all clinics. Whenever these issues are brought to the attention of the administration, they turn a blind eye and make no effort to correct these shortfalls. If you value your work/life balance I would not recommend working here. I'm exhausted and burned out. Several docs who worked here 3 days/week quit because they were so overwhelmed, and many (if not most) employees call in for mental health days because the stress at Salud is so great.
