Pros

All-hands meetings were well-attended and valuable Ops and product leadership are fantastic Office space is beautiful, conveniently-located, and dog-friendly Employees extremely welcoming of newcomers

Cons

High turnover leads to perpetual hiring cycles, which are difficult on all current employees Sama brand has fragmented into too many different directions, sacrificing integrity CEO is out of touch with daily operations

You make a good point here on hiring/turnover -- your feedback was timely and I'm happy to share that in the last year, we had the lowest turnover in our history with zero voluntary attrition in our core services unit. Regarding the CEO feedback, I've tried to learn from past mistakes and recruited two phenomenal executives to help run the company, a CFO and Managing Director, who've each been with the company for over two years and helped us achieve a doubling in sales, dramatic reduction in attrition, and the highest-ever employee satisfaction. I'm definitely less focused on daily operations (in an effort to get us to the next stage of growth) and less visible to all staff than I used to be because I now work more directly with fewer direct reports and am focused on strategic partnerships, customer acquisition, and brand-building. But to your point, we re-instated a few things like 1:1s and office hours that help me connect with staff more regularly -- that should help :)

Pros

Amazing team, work environment, flexible schedule, career growth, learning opportunities, and being able to connect with people from all different backgrounds. I feel like the work we do truly is making a social impact and we are creating a model that can/should be followed by others. We are showing how it's possible to make sustainable social impact through a revenue model that gives us the ability to reinvest and grow our operations for further impact reach.

Cons

Since we connect low-income people to the digital work economy, it's challenging to deal with the inevitable lack of resources, skillsets, and infrastructure of these third-world economies when also striving to be competitive in the market. However, this biggest challenge is also the biggest motivator to continue what we are doing because we are beginning to prove how it can be done.

Thank you for the kind words. It does take a lot of sweat equity to build the connections we have as a company, and it's really a team effort at this point, not just me. The whole management team is constantly taking the mission to heart by traveling on a shoestring budget to win over more clients, partners, and investors to the Give Work model :) We are, I hope, getting better with two-way feedback, office space (working on our SF space, which is a lot less nice than our NL and NBO offices), and infrastructure to make Samasource the best possible place to work. Working in the exciting field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Samasource provides high-quality training data which improves the performance of our customer's algorithms. Samasource also employs teams in under-serviced regions. The management team is great.

Cons

Covid 19 hit and we haven't been able to go to the office since March.
