Pros

-cool office space -dog friendly -catered lunch when we were in the office -snacks, coffee, tea, etc -swag, team outings, company events

Cons

-beware of the lies told in interviews - it's ALL A LIE -favorites galor...don't expect to get promoted unless the manager likes you. Those who have less experience and do the bare minimum will get promoted before you -the pay...where can I start? UNDER MARKET VALUE!!

Samsara Response

Fallout from COVID-19 created an unstable economic environment that changed on a weekly basis. After watching the data for a few months and modeling possible scenarios in May, we realized we had to make the difficult decision to do a layoff in order to reduce our operating expenses and ensure we’d be able to keep supporting our customers and employees for years. We were unable to continue the recruiter rotation program. I'm sorry to hear you felt we could have done better with communications during this time. We appreciate you sharing this feedback.

Pros

They’ll throw you into projects you never thought you’d be assigned so you learn new things.

Cons

I took a big risk when accepting this role. Coming from a fortune 10 company - I thought Samsara would offer me a platform to fast track my career. After working here for almost two years - I can honestly say it’s set me back, far behind my colleagues. The lack of organization, transparency, and cultural values are astonishing. There is a total lack of strategic vision/ focus on building for the long term- with OKRs changing week by week. I spent many nights up until 3am working on projects just to be told by my manager the next day that everything had to change - often resulting in up to five revisions. I’d be told that my managers objectives had changed - as if out of thin air. The lack of trust and the pervasive favoritism in this company can make anyone feel like they are in shackles. Often I’ll be in DAILY stand ups where the meetings will go on 30 mins past end time just to cover unprofessional chatter. Let me also talk about performance reviews . The past two reviews I’ve received have been copy/paste comments that my manager has left for SEVERAL members of the team. I brought this issue up to HR as performance reviews are directly tied with promotion and thus should be extremely individualized and thoughtful. I was told that I was being overly sensitive/ should empathize with an over worked manager. Lastly - id like to address diversity. Year after year, quarter after quarter we have an SKO in which ONLY white men are represented as our top sellers. I strongly encourage you to give some deep thought before accepting a role here.

No Trust - Micromanagement

Pros

early leaders in IOT. Great products and founders.

Cons

Sales culture is bad despite the growth of the company. They add sales tools and processes that make focusing on sales difficult. Every time they make an improvement, they add something else that makes our lives more complicated. There is not much thought put into changes, such as territory or job function. The changes come out of nowhere. If you don't like it then leave. If you are looking to a role avoid AE3 or Public Sector. They are both set up for failure. You are expected to accept it or just look for another job. That is the attitude. You can get higher OTE and equity at other places. As the company grows so does their distrust in you. Calls are counted, if you are AE1 get ready to be managed by metrics. You are a number. Everyone I know who is a AE1 hates it and can't wait to be promoted. Yesterday they announced that they are now going to record all of our phone calls. If you value privacy, independence and being trusted then you are not going to be happy at Samsara.
