Pros

- Product is well developed and much better than the competition - benefits are good - CEO is thoughtful and well-intentioned - strong investment in the company and board members - Experiencing crazy growth - relatively achievable quotas

Cons

- It's a call center for lack of a better term. - your sales activity is micro-managed by managers - managers are sticklers about arriving on time (by the second) so that they can get you promoted and then leave early and go play golf with each other - not great coaching or sales development in terms of training - no team-building events despite the companies massive success - it's a bro culture to the fullest and no diversity - OTE is way below market - they sell you on over attainment and raise quotas every single quarter - people can be subjectively PIPed. A rep on my team had never missed quota, but because his pipeline generation wasn't to their liking they PIPed him

Pros

Free lunch Great benefits Cool Product

Cons

I honestly don't know where to begin. This has been the worst decision of my professional career. Commercial sales leadership is absolutely terrible. If you want to be stalked and criticized all day long then this is the place for you. This is the first company that I've ever worked at where the managers have NOTHING to do all day besides monitor your calls and control every move you make. The quotas are way too high and that is probably why a large number of tenured reps are on pips now that they are fully ramped. The ramp-up period is a scam. In the interviews, they will tell you how everyone is well over quota every month when that is in fact a lie. The culture is terrible and it feels like everyone is walking on eggshells. This job is pure LUCK and everyone relies on inbounds to hit quota. The way inbounds are distributed is not always fair and accurate. Most of the people don't take lunch breaks and just sit at their desk from the start of their day to the very end. The work-life balance is terrible and even though they promote unlimited PTO it is actually not because the managers will deny you, even if you are at quota. Do not work here.

Pros

Awesome, talented coworkers - honestly some of the smartest and brightest people I've worked with Cool products - I have no doubt that this company will be successful if we can retain our key talents Used to have good perks - lunch, dinner (cancelled), snacks, cool events

Cons

Benefits constantly getting cut/reduced - growth fund (which would have been great during COVID!), commuter benefits, swag, meal budget Took forever to switch to WFH, did not provide any initial support with equipments - they did not give out chairs or monitors for months, by then most have paid out of pocket Very obvious nepotism - many folks who were from Meraki, MIT etc.. other power groups were not impacted in the layoffs Cash raise freeze - employees also need a little extra money too, you know? I personally am approaching close to 2 years with 0 cash raise Heavy culture of bootlicking - some posts on public slack channels are pretty cringey Pressure to not take PTO - either from micromanaging managers who don't trust you, or "urgent" works that never seems to end Unrealistic expectations from management - despite the fact that many teams were hit pretty hard from the layoffs, management still has high output expectation pressuring employee with "high performance culture"

Samsara Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and share more about your experience at Samsara! I am happy to hear you have enjoyed working with your colleagues so much. I wanted to address some of your feedback below. Benefits : We are constantly looking for ways to improve our employee benefits. We provided two $250 work from home stipends to recognize expenses employees incurred through the pandemic. We will also be rolling out some new benefits in the coming months, including Spring Health to support mental wellbeing. Cash compensation: We announced equity-only raises earlier in the year when COVID-19 created an unstable economic environment and uncertainty about the future. We have heard this feedback and have completed our first cash market adjustment in November that impacted employees who were promoted through our equity-only comp cycle. In addition, everyone will be eligible for cash raises in FY22. High performance culture : We are proud of the growth of Samsara and we appreciate you being a part of making the company successful. While we know that the company is working hard, we’re constantly evaluating our roadmaps to make better trade-offs on timeline and resourcing.
