Pros

Good benefits, intelligent people, safely WFH in 2020 and beyond. Rapid rate on innovation. Good communication within my segment. Company overall looks strong financially.

Cons

Segment silos, continuous territory changes that inhibit personal sales growth and commission attainment that was pitched in interview. Almost every top performer has been on PIP, so there is a constant awareness and stress of being expendable. Sales Operations and other necessary support groups are declining, and will rip accounts without warning.

Samsara Response

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I am glad you enjoy working with your colleagues and are proud of our pace of innovation. I wanted to address your comment around performance culture on the sales team. We know 2020 was a challenging year, and we modified our performance improvement process. This has included more refined coaching and targeted skills development, cross-team calibration, guided by our Sales leadership team. One feature of Samsara’s high-performing sales culture is that there are consistent targets for Sales employees. To ensure accountability, we clearly communicate the performance improvement policies regularly and set realistic targets on a quarterly basis. I’m sorry to hear you did not feel like this was the case. If you have further ideas on how we can communicate these goals, or improve our processes, please reach out to a member of the Sales leadership team or People Partner.

Can't trust leadership

Pros

Free lunch and snacks great CEO

Cons

You will be responsible for any returns. Deals you sold an eternity ago, will shred their credit card and count negatively towards your quota. I was pipped because I went home for christmas and got hit with a return at the same time. Then I exceeded quota only to still be let go, even though that was the metric leadership told me to hit. Director level employees on the sales side exclusively manage from the dashboard. You are not a person you are a number at Samsara. Also don't believe the recruiters when they say everyone exceeds their quota. They include AEs on ramp when they tell you that. Shady reps do well here. You will basically hustle blue collar fleet owners who don't know better.

Sales people are just numbers

Pros

Pre-IPO IOT Company with good VCs

Cons

Sales people are just numbers here. Management make changes to sales territories without much thought. Mistakes have been made, but not acknowledge by leadership. Sales reps have to fend for themselves. They must deal with it on their own and are even put on performance plans without leadership owning up to their errors. Unless you have owned your territory for a long time, you spend your time looking over your shoulder or seeking other employment. Some sales leaders who have missed quota are not put on a plan but are given promotions or other opportunities in other parts of the organization. Really? They try to make you think that they care by having you fill out surveys every quarter.
