- a lot of autonomy - lots of opportunities available to pursue - many faculty members eager for grant writing support

Cons

- office leadership didn't understand grant processes (either as it existed at SDSU or other comparable higher ed programs), so a great deal of time was devoted to setting up foundational documents and training staff on what types of projects were good candidates for external funding
