Pros

For a singer, full-time pay with benefits. Being paid for what you trained to do.

Cons

A demanding job, vocally, physically, and mentally. The people who hire you aren’t really your bosses and there is no feedback on your performance. You’re either hired back or you’re not. No clear support system.

Pros

World class opera company, singers, productions. Great place to work as a musician. Extremely rewarding artistically, strong sense of camaraderie, and great pay for union members.

Cons

Artistic admin extremely toxic, dysfunctional, and low morale. Blatant bullying, lack of training, lack of growth mindset. High turnover and low pay. Extremely disappointing overall.
