Pros

Working from home pre-COVID Free clothes, once in a while

Cons

Low pay. Very little advancement opportunities. Many people bounce around from role to role but not very often is there any real promotion. Basically a "career" at SanMar is sitting there spinning your wheels like being stuck in the mud and not going anywhere. Micromanagement is horrid and only gotten worse in recent years. Ever since the recession of 2009 management has been relying heavily on metrics that are difficult to achieve and maintain and does not reflect the amount of work that has been done. In recent years management has become seriously disconnected to the average worker. Implemented a new system that makes working there much more stressful and has plummeted customer satisfaction. Used to be a fun place to work, now it is a complaint hotline due to a disaster of a technology change. No accountability whatsoever, supervisors and departments just pass the buck not wanting to deal with any employee issues. Due to high turnover and a new system that is overly complicated customers have to wait anywhere from fifteen to forty minutes to get a hold of a rep. Management assigns too many accounts for one person to manage yet expects those same people to answer the phone all day for random time consuming issues. To say management is short-sighted is an understatement. The family values they speak of is all talk, people are terminated left and right, no value given to employee feedback at all.

We appreciate you sharing your thoughts, even if it's not the type of feedback we hope for. EPR Implementations are notoriously tricky, and ours was no exception. The team is continuing to work on improvements for the benefit of both our customers, and employees. All the best.

Pros

Can work from home. Fairly good benefits.

Cons

Low pay. Almost impossible to move up. Do not work with their employees in case of family problems. In a matter of 4 months I got married, had a family issue that required that I take a day off, took a planned honeymoon and lost my grandma to cancer. By the time all of that happened, I had no PTO left and had actually accrued "points" from missing too many days. There was no compassion, and in fact, when I needed a day off to take my husband for a dental procedure I was told by my supervisor that she "had already helped me a lot over the last few months". I nearly didn't get my quarterly bonus. When I finally put in my two weeks I actually ended up not being able to complete them due to another death in the family and having to go out of state to help take care of the arrangements. When I called to tell my supervisor that I wouldn't be back I was informed that I wouldn't be allowed back in the building to return my computer and everything and that they would mail me boxes to return it all. SanMar can tout their "family values" all they want, but it's obvious that this is just a line. Additionally, management likes to hire outside of the company for supervisor positions. It's kind of hard to take instruction from someone who has literally never done the job that you are doing.

Pros

Work at home. They provide the equipment. Occasional samples of products. Training in Washington showed they have a really nice office and cafeteria. Great company. The owner is awesome. The motto is awesome. The company's ethics toward their customers is super awesome.

Cons

A lot of work at little pay. I was trying to take a less stressful job and was taking a pay increase to have a more laxed job....not the case. As an Acct Exec you do the job of 3 people and get paid for 1 job. SOME supervisors are clueless and just keep telling you to try doing things a different way. Well there is no way possible for one person to do the job of 3 people for minimal pay and the bonus was not worth it.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback! We are glad to hear that you had a positive view of our company ethics and our awesome owner! We appreciate you providing excellent customer service to our customers in your time at SanMar. We're sorry to hear that the workload felt intense and not on par with the compensation you received. The good news is that we have committed to increased hiring for this department this year and are actively reviewing our approach to compensation as we speak. We also appreciate your feedback on your experience surrounding supervisor assignments and will be sure to share this back with our leadership team. We wish you all the best in your future role!
