Pros

worked for Sanctuary Graduates as Candidate Executive for a 6 month placement whilst at University. I absolutely loved working there! I was part of a very young, up-beat and enthusiastic office with a great vibe to it which made coming into work every day fun and exciting. Within my role I dealt with the candidate side of things, including queries about application processes, campaign admin, screening and interviewing candidates and general ad hoc tasks such as mass mailers. Although not all of these roles were outlined in the job description I was thrilled to be given loads of responsibility from the onset (much more that I thought I would have) which made the role really varied and gave the feeling that I was making a strong contribution to the overall company which you definitely wouldn’t get as a placement student in a larger business. I also loved being in a position where I would interview and speak to candidates on the phone everyday which gives a real variety to the work.

Cons

The workload is large, you are given quite a lot to do on a daily basis and expected to get it done (or stay behind) but it is definitely manageable, especially if you don’t get too distracted by the great snacks on offer in the office!

Pros

- You get to experience lots of sides of the business, for example sales and screening - You get to see areas of various industries that you may not have even heard of before - If you can show potential, they will invest time in you to try out things you may be interested in, e.g. Meeting clients or presenting to companies - A nice place to work in terms of little competition or office politics - Great social aspect with regular office drinks and outings -Fairly target-driven, for example a lunch at The Shard if employees reach their targets -A small company which means your opinion is heard and often you can get involved in being discussions about the business and big decisions -A good place to do a placement if you are unsure what sector to go into and if you'd like to see how a company works without being thrown into a massive corporate Overall a very pleasant year on placement. A nice company with a good team collaboration.

Cons

-Often repetitive and tedious work - Because it is a small company, you can often be working on top of each other and there is no HR to speak to when you have an issue -Long hours and working late which often goes unappreciated -Quite underpaid for the amount of work you put in with an unfair bonus system due to favourism

Pros

- Undertaking a placement at SG is a great way to explore various different industries and understand what sort of jobs are out there once you graduate. You'll also understand a lot more about the recruitment process and how to make that work in your favour when attending interviews and assessment centres. - Great exposure to clients across different industries, occasionally you'll even get to meet them face to face - Very young office, great vibe, nice people - Lots and lots of responsibility, something you'll probably never experience in a massive corporation during your placement year (you gotta be up for it though, cause no one is going to do it for you, as everyone has got their own stuff to do)

Cons

- If you already know what you want to do after graduation, this placement is not for you, as industry knowledge and insight is probably the best thing you'll get out of this placement - Heavily underpaid for the amount of work and responsibilities required of you, (i.e. it's probably not the best choice if you're all about the money, but IMO placement year shouldn't really be just about the money) - You'll be required to do a lot of random stuff not included on the initial JD, which can be both good and bad, but you gotta be able to get on with it - MD is really strict on being in the office on time in the morning, which is not very fair cause you'll usually stay back late anyway (it teaches you to be punctual though, and you might lose few pounds running for those morning trains)
