Leadership so often fails to correctly terminate employees. This can manifest in several ways. Maybe they will drag their feet on confronting an abuser in the workplace, so that scores of qualified women resign in protest or frustration—decimating your team. Maybe top leadership spoiled the year’s budget, so then they’ll pressure those hardworking, yet regrettably highest paid employees to resign—in an effort to reset their payroll while symbolically absolving themselves of guilt. Or then again, they also could simply just ask you one day out of the blue to reapply for your job. You are replaceable, and you’ll likely be making less than the person that you’re replacing.
