Unorganized and mismanaged

Pros

Home automation is a great product. With the GE purchase, they've been able to lower the costs so that more and more people can afford the technology.

Cons

The owner has no idea what's going on with the company. They spend millions on parties to attract partners that don't deliver a proper return on their investment. The company is led by mostly family members who aren't qualified for their jobs. The president has pets that are given too much responsibility and have no idea what they are doing. Tons of wasted money, people leading their supposed departments without oversight, poorly managed. For example, they had a major project three years ago in which they invested millions of dollars and time. The owner suddenly decided to discontinue the project and all efforts. I hope the company survives, but I don't have much faith in its longevity.

Talented People Lacking Fundamental Leadership

Pros

Enjoyable low level learning and unique engineering feats. Most of my coworkers were really amazing and talented people. Fun outdoor and local activities. Interesting Product Space. Perceived influence and ownership. There's potential to significantly advance your career if you make the right moves. Some VP's really do care so much, and will I appreciate those people forever. You will be a stronger human being after this job is over.

Cons

Expected to work long hours, expected to get everything done ASAP. Deadlines are irresponsible. Highest priority is to get things done, no regard for performance/future durability or health. Tossed around projects. Legacy maintenance, Bug fixes, where people don’t take responsibility. Super negative and fear bearing culture. Unnecessary pressure and blame. General Management problems including egos in upper management. Lack of direction, rapid change in direction with no reason. Projects / People pulled. No match on 401k, never will be. Cape Cod year round is tough for single young people, especially when you're not encouraged to enjoy the benefits of being in the island. No room for advancement, very flat hierarchy, pay bumps few and far between. No time for testing, generally poor development practices. Of all the popular sayings, "Stuff flows down" is a reoccurring message on a daily or weekly basis.

Pros

Cool Products, some nice people. Reasonable Benefits. Some very very smart engineering talent.

Cons

Sr. Management direction is to cash out ASAP. Not building a company to last. Founder made a Billion once , had to give a way a chunk in divorce, wants another Billion, not likely to happen with Savant. If you are one of the old time inside gang and want to live on the Cape it's good. If you are from anywhere else you're not an insider and totally disposable. Like many companies these days just looking for a quick buck and to bleed the employees.
