Operations Supervisor/ Lifeguard
Pros
Hires international student workers which creates a unique environment You lose weight because you're sweating all day one of the few places that hires at 15 There are after hours staff events A very selective scholarship for Texas State Students Teaches you good customer service
Cons
In the operations department specially aquatics, unless you are 15 years old, you will be working far more than 40 hours a week, around 90 hours or more. Your only break will come from a single 30 minute lunch break, and if you become a lead lifeguard or operations supervisor you will not get a break, you cannot leave your area to get your lunch. Management including the corporate office is very unprepared every season. between payroll issues, and staff incentives being confused and those are the least of issues. There is no over time pay for seasonal employees, just stating because the hours are so long you're only getting a flat rate. Operations Department constantly cleans up after everyone, guests and other departments for starters. What they call HALF shifts, are as follows... mornings are 7:30 (If working blastenhoff) 0r 8am to 4pm with a lunch break. And Afternoons are 2:30pm-9pm with no lunch break unless you are 15 years old. Uniforms are horrible. Polos are unisex, which lead for a very baggy look on women, swimsuits are horribly ill fitting if you are female and have any curves the lifeguard shorts will ride up your thighs. Non Aquatic employees don't get swimsuits which makes sense right? except when they have to go clean pools and anything in water they are wearing khakis and polos in the water. Management does NOT care about the well being of their staff. If you are sick they will only send you home with very specific symptoms. They are very reluctant to close down rides so our staff can rotate to different spots or get lunch breaks. Guests will always come first which is great for learning customer service, but horrible for learning about about good leadership. Staff member of the week and promotions are done off of favoritism. HR in corporate is terrible. There is zero regard for staff safety, staff meetings never have a corporate employee present which makes it very hard to get them to understand complaints being filled.
