      Pros

      OT augments mediocre wage nicely. Employee ownership allows you to make or break your career. Lots of very technically smart people as a resource, if you can figure out how to find what you need.

      Cons

      Nothing stopping you from doing too much but you. A very deep "If I don't hear anything bad it must be fine" mentality pervades everything. Causes employees to have difficulty getting recognition for anything positive but small, and allows management to be appear equally successful wether they solve problems or simply shut down a communications channel.
