Pros

Dedicated Community: Scribd boasts a dedicated community from both staff and users. Opportunity for Growth: Despite challenges, there are opportunities for growth and innovation within the company, particularly for those who can navigate the evolving landscape.

Cons

Leadership Focus: The leadership's focus on an exit strategy may jeopardize the company's independence and raises concerns about long-term stability and the value of equity for new entrants. Culture Misalignment: Despite claims of a people-first culture, there's evidence suggesting a lack of genuine support for individuality and boldness, with conformity prevailing. Project Planning Issues: Premature initiation of major projects without a clear strategy and hypothesis validation has led to confusion, inefficiency, and a heightened risk of burnout among team members.

Pros

Over the recent years, Scribd has undergone a transformation, evolving into an organization with a strong customer focus, strategic clarity, and an elevated standard for employee excellence. This shift can largely be attributed to a strategic change in leadership, where experienced leaders have been instrumental in guiding the company into its next stage of growth. My experience at Scribd has been exceptionally positive. The company fosters a culture where results-driven individuals and those who take pride in their work are recognized and rewarded. Scribd is also committed to maintaining profitability without compromising on employee care. The benefits are comprehensive, and the HR team is continually seeking ways to enhance it. During my tenure, I've witnessed the expansion of various allowances, the addition of extra holidays, and the launch of new training and development programs accessible to all employees. Scribd is not a place for those looking to merely get by. It is a dynamic environment where motivated people are encouraged to excel, learn from peers, and make a meaningful impact. If you're eager to work and learn alongside talented people, and be challenged in order to achieve career growth, Scribd is the right place for you.

Cons

Sometimes it can be challenging to foster shared motivation when there are some areas of the company that feel disconnected from the strategy. Continuing to drive alignment and focus across the company will help with this.

Pros

They have flexible time off and multiple company holidays, though some departments are expected to work during said holidays on a volunteer basis. They also pay for all employee benefits, minus some dependents and elective coverages.

Cons

There seems to be very little care for the wellbeing of any department that's below the C-Suite, culminating in gratuitous and quite frankly exploitative layoffs. They also pushed the idea of growth within the company during the onboarding process, but actual movement is slim to none.
