Pros

All the amazing perks you would expect from a San Francisco tech company. The team feels more like family than co-workers, and the atmosphere is communal (e.g. eating together, happy hours, lounge areas). Constant opportunities to learn new things. The company is very transparent as well.

Cons

Basically the same problems that plague every company (little mobility in engineering, a crufty code base, changing specs and requirements, etc.) Scribd is also competing in an extremely tough market, which leads to un-interesting projects.

Pros

Great people, smart engineers, teamwork, good social scene, free food (and all the other lovely startup nonsense), everyone cares about the product and the user, and your boss isn't an idiot.

Cons

Spending time on revenue features is less interesting than real work, but you'd get that problem anywhere. Sometimes forward planning is a little lacking, so there can be a few weeks of hurry-up-and-wait here and there.

Pros

-Scribd hires well. As an employee, you're surrounded by smart colleagues that are very skilled in their areas of expertise -Great people -Mangement expects performance, but doesn't micromanage -You control your own destiny. You set your goals and meet/exceed them. You work with other teams to accomplish your goals, but you have a lot of autonomy

Cons

-We only move as fast as our design and engineering teams can go. There are a lot of competing interests, so some projects will get swept under the rug and prioritized over others. A project you're working on may be paused mid-way through to shift focus onto another initiative
