Pros

Great firsthand exposure to medicine; You learn a lot of clinical information such as disease processes and medications. Most of the doctors you work with are really nice -- They are open to writing recommendation letters on your behalf (I didn't ask for one but I know a few other scribes who did).

Cons

- The abysmally low pay for the amount of work you put in - Having to pay for parking every shift (not sure if this changed by now). - Terrible hours that you have no control over (overnights, weekends, holidays) - Being at the bottom of the ladder; Don't get me wrong, the healthcare staff was very nice but you'll be "reminded" of your position in subtle ways. - Maybe not limited to scribing but just boring long-term. When you first start, everything is new so it is exciting but eventually, you'll get sick of the tedium of scribing. You're never challenged to think, minimal interaction with patients, just mindless charting. I know the majority of you guys are pre-MD/DO/PA/RN looking into this job to help build up your resume. If you have other clinical jobs or research lined up, I would highly recommend working there instead of Scribe America. However, if you absolutely can't find anything else, by all mean work here. Admittedly, the clinical experience you get will be decent.

Pros

at least the paychecks come on time

Cons

-long hours -no break even after 10 hours (clearly a labor law violation) -gave less than 24 hours to spend a weekend learning and being tested on a new topic -minimum wage -can't say it was even a learning experience - no time - just a robot taking notes

Pros

Exposure to the medical field Ability to meet and work with doctors in an ER setting Inside look at the ER

Cons

They over hire!!! After working for a few weeks they will make you take a test and will fail you if they need to cut down on people. They do not care if you have school the next day at 8 am. They will keep you sometimes until 3 am even if you have to be up 4 hours later. The test is a joke - another scribe had the SAME answers and they passed while another failed...This is a corrupt company that takes advantage of college students who want experience. They LIE on their website about the clinical experience counting towards PA school. I called the company directly and they admitted many schools will not accept scribes as clinical hours. In fact I called nearly 10 schools and none of them accepted scribing as counting towards the clinical requirement. This company is a scam through and through and needs to be reviewed due to the many labor laws violated including no lunches or breaks. Overall, a terrible company!!!
