Pros

I think it completely depends on the location as a case by case situation, but I worked as a scribe in the ER and used that as my experience for PA school!

Cons

One night I was sick and vomiting and I called out of my shift for the next day and it was impossible to find someone to cover for me...but I couldn't go into work like that so I didn't show.

Pros

It is a great experience to get your foot in the door. They are very flexible with schedule but give them a month advance if you want any days off. It is great your resume if you intend to attend Grad or med school.

Cons

No benefits. Have to pass the initial test and then the the final exam on the 7 courses. You do not get to chose your Outpatient specialty. ER scribe have to work weekend, holidays and night shift, 24/7.

Pros

You earn invaluable ED experience so that you see first hand what happens while helping people out.

Cons

Poor pay for the odd hours and high stress of the job. Management is also kind of poor due to high turnover rates.
