Pros

- It is pretty much glorified shadowing and the one of the few ways to get "clinical" experience without a certification for pre-meds. - You tend to see the same things often but occasionally something exciting comes up. - Access to physicians who can write you letters of recommendations

Cons

- Very fast paced environment, if you think you have free time, you don't -Subpar training; you get 5 bedside training shifts but the trainers pretty much don't really help you that much because they also have to be doing their jobs at the same time. Some are good trainers, most are not. You're expected to watch them, and be ready to be on your on by the 4th or 5th day unless you're fired. My advice is to start the first training shift like you already on your own. Don't be afraid to ask the doctor to repeat him/herself. -High turnover rate because you the pay is so low for the work you do. I started at $8.75 and could only get $10 after 3 months. You're really only doing this for the experience.

Pros

If you get in could be good for medical school but realistically could do anything for medical school.

Cons

It's a pretty bad job. I got hire for full time, mid way switched to part time then to one day a week. The pay is ridiculous I got paid 70 for a three days of work after taxes which isn't enough to survive on. They want you to use so much of your time studying but don't want to compensate you. Realistically it's a whole bunch of kids training kids. No one has been at the job long enough to actually train you properly but that's what you get. Better of doing volunteer work or emt .
