Pros

I worked in the ER and learned a lot about clinical decision making. You're alongside the doctors the entire shift and build a great relationship with them, which is great for recommendation letters. The training is very thorough too. I learned a lot about medicine and ED flow in just a short couple weeks. I had a pretty sweet schedule too because at my location most people volunteered for evenings and weekends because they were in school. Every once in a while I'd have to work weekends and overnights. No room for growth in the company unless you want to move every 3 months setting up new contracts with hospitals.

Cons

Your chief scribe is usually an overstressed 20 year old who is trying to take classes, work for ScribeAmerica and get into medical school at the same time. Pay is complete crap, but you have to accept you're doing it for the experience not the money. $8 for training and then $10 after you meet your 90 day mark or something like that. I heard it is now $13 which is a big improvement. Also, get ready to work holidays.

Pros

It is really great experience if you are interested in going into the medical field such as MD or PA school. Working side by side with physicians you get to see all the action in the ER. And possibly rack up on some good references.

Cons

There are no pay increases after your first 90 days. Which really sucks because after a while you start to feel like you dont get paid enough for your long hours and hard work. Opportunity for growth is few and far in between.
