Pros

You get to experience other parts of the country (keep in mind that may not always be a good thing). Working in various specialties with different providers and learning multiple EMR systems is very good experience. Learning to implement projects (depending on the manager at the site, you may be more independently leading these or being micromanaged). Housing is paid for by the company as a traveling project manager.

Cons

The deeper you get into the company, the more it’s revealed what a mess it really is. Every employee is overworked and under payed below the salaried positions (those employees are still overworked, but at least they’re paid better). Because the position is hourly, at times when projects are in a lull (which can happen often depending on the project) you have to fight for your hours. This may mean 3 weeks of 40 hours a week straight recruiting. You can’t clock in on the holidays for anything other than clinical shifts because of “good company morale.” ScribeAmerica wants employees to spend the holidays with family and friends for good work/life balance. But as a traveler, you often won’t get to be with family and friends on the holidays because you’ve been relocated. So you can’t be with those people and you can’t work. You often won’t be told everything you are getting into until it’s happening- which is often because no one knows what’s going on most of the time. Most of the company is run by people under 30 y/o with little to no real outside business experience. As a project manager it can be very confusing at times to know who your management actually is and near impossible to develop any kind of relationship with them. Want a reference? It’s probably not coming from one of your managers. Your life is your job. You literally uproot your life to work the job and move every few months and you’re barely compensated for it. You are put in the position between the client and corporate ScribeAmerica- you are the middle man. The pressure is put on you from both directions and when the client is not happy with ScribeAmerica, ScribeAmerica is not happy with you. Keep in mind we are mostly mid-twenty-something’s with no business experience dealing with physicians, medical directors, and hospital administrators.

Pros

Clinical experience, patient contact, and provider relationships are the only positives of this company. As a manager, leadership experiences has been beneficial.

Cons

Upper management does not care about scribes, training is sub par, and compensation is horrendous. Upper management is very unhelpful and does not provide support to site managers. The company prioritizes saving money, and scribes suffer as a result.

Pros

Working alongside doctors in the healthcare environment can open you up to a lot of experience and important future connections.

Cons

My experience with this company was extremely disappointing. When I applied for the job, I saw the negative reviews online but I decided to go ahead and apply with the hopes of getting experience. Unfortunately I got sent to a site where I was disliked even before I started. There was a lot of bias given to me by the chief scribe for reasons I will never understand. I always tried to be nice and respectful and on time but she would always find something wrong in whatever I did or would always reply my emails with a condescending tone. The floor trainers were of no help. I would constantly ask for feedback and tips but for some reason they would tell me I was doing a good job but still go ahead and submit a negative review to the chief scribe which fueled her dislike for me. I was really depressed and anxious the few months I worked there and I was actually relieved when my time was cut short because I couldn’t really work in that kind of negative environment. After they let me go I tried to discuss about what happened with the hiring manager but she wouldn’t hear me out and my explanations fell on deaf ears. Scribe America I think you should really look into the characters of people you hire as leaders in your company. People always complain about how badly they are treated by their chief scribes and floor trainers and it seems to go unchecked. I was really looking forward to working with this company but that was the worst treatment I have ever gotten in any work environment I have ever been in!
