Pros

-Meet cool doctors who are eager to teach -Recommendation letters -Learn medical terminology and treatments

Cons

-Pay is a joke for the amount of work scribes do. Even the doctors agree that it's unacceptable. -Chief scribes ('managers') cause more trouble and problems than they solve. -Very strict scheduling, don't expect flexibility (especially as a student) -Company doesn't care about Scribes - they are expendable and 'problematic' if they aren't perfect robots.

Pros

Experience and exposure to the medical field.

Cons

However, if you already have exposure to the medical field through previous jobs it really doesn’t offer much more insight to the field. I have 7 years experience in the medical field and I was drawn to the job by the flexibility while I’m in school. However it isn’t flexible at all. I ended up working way more shifts than I intended to, due to coworkers constantly calling in. The pay sucks. I took a 5 dollar pay cut coming here after being promised to match my pay rate from my previous job. I was promised a chief scribe position, that never happened I was lied to. The company doesn’t protect its scribes from anything. All the company cares about is its contract with the hospital to make that money. The company takes advantage of college students and pays them just above minimum wage. I can go to work at Walmart as a cashier and make more money than working as a scribe. Worst company I have ever worked for. I would rather wipe butts than to work for this company again. Management sucks and takes months to get back to you. I sent my project manager an email and got a reply back no joke 1 month later. This company is a joke. If you are a hospital looking to contract with Scribe America look elsewhere with one of the other dozen companies out there. While they put on a good show and look very professional and amazing, don’t be fooled by this trickary. This is not written because I was fired. I willingly left to get away from this company and to make more money in a more flexible job. (No it wasn’t Walmart, that was just an example)

Pros

Excellent learning experience provided you land a good location.

Cons

You may (probably will) be greatly mislead during the hiring and training process. You may be put in a location because that location mistreats scribes and cannot keep them You may be mistreated and this company will not stand behind you The pay is terrible This company expects you to be available no matter what, even when you publish availability that they are supposed to acknowledge but often do. You may be doing the work of a transcriptionist and a medical coder (and sometimes even a personal assistant) and being paid to make hamburgers...
