Poor Training

Pros

1. Good Clinical Exposure: being able to see the physician - patient interaction is invaluable for anyone seeking this kind of an experience. 2. Knowledge - gaining the knowledge that you do as a Scribe is beneficial and humbling especially if you're interested in pursuing medical education further. 3. Making friends - many of the other scribes have similar backgrounds and it's nice to have the support system. The team of doctors, nurses etc. is welcoming to the scribes.

Cons

** The company does not have an effective training program: - trainers are often not qualified to train. Just because someone is good at a job does not necessarily qualify them to be able to teach that job. Teaching is a skill and "effective" teaching is honestly a gift. ** Warning for anyone interested in the job: - The job is great but the training program is significantly flawed. So be adamant to learn in whatever way works for you. Be confident in your capabilities and just be cognizant about feedback from trainers that is baseless. Contradictory to what some might tell you, the job is not rocket science! It is very straightforward and gets easier the longer you do it. Also be aware that the company has the right to dismiss you at any point.

Pros

1-on-1 experience with doctors. If you are interested in the medical field, you obtain great exposure and knowledge through a hands on job.

Cons

Non-competitive pay rate. Scribe America does not pay scribes as well as they should be.

Disappointing all around.

Pros

Access to valuable knowledge that can only be gained by interacting, observing, and working with/for a physician. Learning how the medical field really works firsthand.

Cons

Training - it is terrible, disorganized, very short, and not thorough enough for different types of scribing jobs, since the workbook is only set up to cover the ER scribe's job. Management - they are overworked and not trained well themselves. Managers at my location had no experience with the particular EMR, which made it more difficult. Managers also were degrading and were consistently late to everything, very unprofessional. It is a stressful job all around, and with the horribly poor pay, it makes it not worth it unless you are desperate. The doctors will take their stress out on you, and if they are unorganized, it makes your job even harder. The company offers no benefits whatsoever (besides an optional 30 minute lunch) to scribes, full time or not.
