Pros

Scribe experience is extremely site-specific. If you are lucky enough to be hired at a developed site with an effective Chief Scribe, and limited ScribeAmerica involvement, you will receive great experience for future medical careers.

Cons

The amount of pay is appalling. You will work very hard and still make less than a McDonalds employee. Extremely high turnover because of the almost impossibility of making it a career that can support a family. Severe disorganization of upper management. Frequent disrespect from upper management. Upper management focus on implementing more sites vs. creating high quality programs.

Pros

I have worked in a community-hospital ED for 2 years. Scribing, to me, is the best and perhaps only way to obtain the volume of clinical experience that so many medical and nursing students wish they had by the time they reach clinical rotations. -Doctors vary, but most are happy to teach you something new each day. -You have the opportunity to make valuable connections with other ER employees. -You will learn an incredible amount of medicine if you keep your eyes and ears open. -Training is paid.

Cons

-The upper management can be difficult to communicate with due to the fact that all communications are by email/phone. -Very disorganized and confusing management tools. -Information is communicated from management to regional and local middle-management poorly, often not at all. -Raises are miserable. To receive a 0.5% yearly raise requires that you complete a number of inane continuing education steps, and a letter of recommendation from your own manager. There are no other raises. -As stated in other reviews, the responsibility undertaken by a manager drastically outweighs the pay and benefits. -NO OVERTIME ALLOWED AT ALL. It is, in fact, forbidden by management.

Pros

Invaluable medical experience, networking with providers and clients.

Cons

No appreciation for management above a CS position. No confidentiality, no trust given to employees. Poor compensation for expected work load.
