Pros

There are some great co workers

Cons

Poor advancement opportunities, a job opening will be listed internally but 90% of the time its already been promised to soeone before you even get the chance to apply. Insurance was good now that it has changed I've spent hours on the phone trying to get claims fixed there is also NO communication in the company anywhere everthing is asecret and also you are expected to not have an opinion if you are told the sky is purple they expect you to believe it and never ask questions also the only raise you get to look forward to is normally around 10¢ per hour per year and this review is not based on the actual farms where the work is grueling sometimes in 90° temp year round and this billion dollar company does not pay time and a half for overtime for these employees

Pros

The company leads you to believing you add value to the company and are important which is a lie. A few honest good people work for the company that genuinely care, but that is a small number.

Cons

Upper management simply uses you until they do not need you anymore. They put on a huge show every time the KC team comes in to make everything look good and justify each persons job. The KC team is disconnected with what is happening on the ground level. The management is a good Ol boy system. They try and show how much they care for the communities they work in but only because they must cover all the unethical things they do! Hourly employees, high school graduates, college graduates, and professionals take a deeper look before you chose to work for this company. The company only cares about making money, not the people or the animal. This is evidence with the stance on crate gestation.

Pros

Pay is decent and benefits are good. People are friendly. They are finally trying to improve efficiency and processes rather than just doing things the same way they've always been done.

Cons

They don't promote from within. I am a top performer in my group and I've applied for several positions within the company throughout the years, both lateral moves and promotions, and been passed up. Some of those positions were given to outside applicants. I guess I don't know the right people. Also, regarding work concerns I have been told by upper management - Do what you're supposed to do and don't worry about what anyone else does and if you don't like it, leave.

Seaboard Foods Response

Thank you for your feedback. At Seaboard Foods, our corporate office has grown rapidly and we believe employees do best when they feel connected and understand why we do what we do. That’s why we foster a culture of asking why. Because we have questioned practices, analyzed practices and invested in improvements, we have been able to grow the business and provide new opportunities for our employees. Our process is to post each position, review all qualified applicants and select the a candidate who is most likely to be successful in the position while meeting the company’s business needs. While we often promote internally, we recognize that some positions require skillsets that don’t align well with every internal candidate. Our people are our number one investment; therefore we encourage our employees to work with their manager and human resources to share and discuss their needs, ideas, and concerns about their career goals.
