Bad Management Running the Show

Pros

Great people, lots of long time people but that is changing.

Cons

Management is out of control. They no longer care about the people. Only money. The company looks good on paper but after you work there a while you see it is all smoke and mirrors. Consistent lay offs and upper management do not listen to SMEs. They keep taking away from the employees yet keep asking them to do more. No work from home which is silly in this day and age. Slow sinking ship. Upper management keep hiring their friends who end up costing the company money. Also the new CIO Ravi is hatcheting away at IT without thought to the consequences. I honestly feel sorry for the over worked people who are left and now waiting to get the hatchets during the next round of rifs.

Al Rolling in his grave

Pros

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 20 years) Great People from the Direct Manager level and down. Excellent teamwork and a plethora of knowledge since people have so many years experience.

Cons

Executive leadership are greedy and out of touch with reality. They missed major technology boats over the years. Hence the issues we are seeing now with the company. They act like they care about their people, but their actions prove otherwise. Over the years they keep taking away benefits from employees. With the constant rifs those who are left are over worked and not trusted by management. In IT there is a fearmongering mentality. If you do not do what Ravi wants then you better bet that you will be gone and replaced by a SanDisk crony. Sadly Seagate used to be a wonderful company to work for and people used to respect the management team, but that has faded greatly over the years and is only getting worse. Now it is all about lining the pockets of the executives and they do not seem to care about the people or the company as long as they get their pockets full.

How fast can you run?

Pros

Money in your pocket, every two weeks.

Cons

Shortly after I started the strict requirement to have your underware vetted by esecurity, left open a wide open gap and all employee's W2's were emailed to the dark web. No one was fired and Seagate offered a year of Equifax credit monitoring. So after 20 years in tech, I finally could buy my own SSN from the dark web. Past CEO and new CEO both a couple of "Richard Craniums". They made fun of WD for their purchase of SanDisk and then hired the failed SanDisk CIO. They have a complete distain for the current American administration and are influenced by all thing Silicone Valley. New CIO is a complete idiot and a scumbag. He background is in creating a devalued organization in preparation to sell. Ask SanDisk about the "french shower". Pretty sure he wears shoes he can slip on or they have velcro. Pretty sure he needed a play by play on how to wipe his own backside. While being there, however I have met some outstanding engineers, that simply don't have the management to use the tools they were given. A few highlights over the last few years: Multiple RIF's Multiple re-Orgs Multiple M&A's (Only to dang near kill them then sell them for a loss) Leadership (loose term) had no understanding of technology. Uncertain future, regardless of experience or function. Incompetent Leadership (Director was a "butt in seat" boss). You could show up and do nothing all day as long as you were in your seat. EGO's from line manager all the way up, the ego's certainly overcompensated for their lack of ability. Management, once RIF's were not really employable in the same field. Run, run, run far away from this place. Seagate will not be Seagate in five years, if they last that long. They will sell, ironically to a flash provider and then be scuttled.
