Pros

Seagate is a good company to work for. The work-life balance is great, and the teams I have been on have been my motivation to stay. Many employees have been there 10+ years, and that has something to say about the values of the company.

Cons

Compensation is way below par. There are smaller companies that will pay almost double for the same position and rank. This shows not only financially, but also in the average level of talent of engineers. There are some great engineers at the company but the overall average skill level is pretty poor, putting a lot more pressure on the better engineers to perform past their limits to keep things moving. There is also a very big value on company politics at the senior management levels. A lot of decisions are made to make the next guy up the latter happy rather than making the work of the engineers easier or more efficient.

Pros

Technology is constantly changing and the business reacts quickly to industry demands.

Cons

Military mindset, unable to attract and retain young talent. Many in leadership have been at Seagate 20+ years. Often quoted by younger members as a "boomer" company. Compensation is lagging, the company is working to reduce our flexibility, leadership unable to connect with younger employees who value creativity and flexibility. The CEO has a "don't let the door hit you on the way out" mentality.
