Pros

Had a great team of co-workers that supported each other. Good benefits. In IT so I am able to tele-commute. Global teams. My manager looks at for our team.

Cons

Most employees have bookmarked web sites to track layoff rumors to keep upto date on pending cuts. TOO MANY good people have been laid off this year. The ones left are over worked. No raise in 5 years. Cuts made from senior management level with no input from managers. This left huge gaps to be filled by the people left behind. Moving all IT support to APAC teams.

Pros

Good benefits, decent pay, mostly good people that wanted to be used to their full potential and grow, and the flex time was a good perk.

Cons

Upper management does not have any “care” factor. They expect employees to be loyal to the business without having that loyalty in return. Every person below a director level is nothing more than a number. The RIFs were heartbreaking to go through. It was often wrote off by old-timers as “the Seagate way of doing business” which disturbed me. There is absolutely no upward mobility, no training, no professional development. They hired a hatchet man as the CIO, and turned the company over to a person that expects everyone around him to just be “yes” people: “Sure, Dave, whatever you want, Dave.” It’s ridiculous. If you challenge the status quo as set by the upper echelon of Seagate then you’ll just get laid off in the next round.

Pros

I met many great people when I worked at Seagate. I had the opportunity to learn and grow.

Cons

Unfortunately, I was laid off due to the company experiencing "macro-economic" issues that seemed to come out of nowhere. One day we were picking out the new cubicle locations and submitting training needs for the new year and within a month or two over 1,000 people were laid off.
