Pros

Good people...I mean it. The people there, by and large, were very nice. Most everyone seemed willing to help and provide knowledge where possible. Good benefits and salary.

Cons

Meetings, meetings and more meetings. Projects consisted of about 10 managers / spec makers, and one developer. That developer spent more time in meetings about how the project was coming along than actually developing. Another major con is the amount of outsourcing. It seems like all the knowledge in the company is being transferred from implementation to babysitting offshore resources. Because of this and other, more politically motivated reasons, long time employees are leaving, and their knowledge leaves with it.

Pros

They encourage you to learn, take additional coursework, gain experience. Everyone is accessible in this company to talk and open to ideas.

Cons

I wish they had a better claims system already in place and additional reps.

Horrible Working Environment

Business Outlook

Pros

3 days in office/2 at home

Cons

Entire management & sales team always out of the office on vacation. My supervisor made himself completely unavailable by working in the office when everyone was on their days home, he is passive/aggressive and stabs his employees in the back.

Pros

My department is filled with smart, creative and welcoming people. There is a strong 'team' mentality where everyone works to support one another and especially helps new team members learn and grow in their role. Being vocal is encouraged and there is a continual focus on improvement. Though there are the occasional 'busy times,' Selective offers a great work-life balance, with a flexible work from home policy. Senior management shows appreciation and offers praise for hard work and a job well done. Overall, Selective offers a great work environment, competitive benefits, and a culture that makes coming to work everyday enjoyable.

Cons

I haven't experienced any major cons at this time.

Pros

Everyone is super welcoming and the culture here is great! A relatively progressive insurance carrier when it comes to all things ERG. There's tons of room for growth and advancement and they want to see you succeed.

Cons

Workload/production is heavy but just like any insurance job.

Valued Employees

Pros

Everyone is highly valued from interns to senior management. Most decisions are made by committee with all angles being thoroughly vetted. Anyone can propose an idea and it will be treated as if it came from the CEO.

Cons

Because everyone's thoughts are valued, a singular veto from any stakeholder can prevent progress. Meetings are numerous to gain buy-in.
