A-plus Company for A-plus Talent

Pros

- Excellent pay and benefits. The company prides itself on paying top dollar for top talent. - Strong sense of expectations. I have very clear goals and I know exactly what is expected of me. I understand the financial and career rewards for exceeding those goals and I understand the consequences of not meeting my goals. - Opportunities for career growth. In my experience the company prefers to promote from within. Hard work and business aptitude is rewarded. - Low amount of "admin" work and unnecessary meetings. The focus is always on achieving your goals. There is very little "extra-curricular" activity at Sensient. No HR-type committees, no company expectation of community service, no recruiting activities. I get to do my job and go home. - Strong company culture. You either fit in or you won't make it. The company culture is very serious and professional. You leave your outside life at the door when you get to work - there is virtually no "chit-chat" in the office. When you're in the office, the expectation is that you're actually working, not talking about how great your weekend was. I suspect a majority of the negative reviews are from people who couldn't cut it at Sensient. The CEO has made it clear that he wants "winners", exceptional talent doing exceptional work for an exceptional company. In many cases the negative review is a reflection on the author, not on the company.

Cons

- Demanding environment. If expectations are not met you will be let go. - Company culture can be difficult for younger or less experienced staff members.

Pros

The company does what it says- period. No smoke and mirrors here and definitely no time for that either. Communication at the corporate level is open, honest (sometimes brutally honest) but I would much prefer that over some candy-coated, beat-around-the-bush approach to communicating with employees. Solid leadership at the top is very involved with day-to-day problem solving and provides the exec support needed to undo bottlenecks. Great environment for learning in your wheelhouse and outside of it. You're pushed to be better but not pushed to a level of being stressed out. There are many projects to be involved with and you truly have a voice for change here- not an exaggeration at all.

Cons

Going through a few growing pains have identified areas for improvement in process and communication style- however, there is not one company out there that doesn't have these either. The biggest differentiator is that we have recognized them and placed actions plans to address as needed. Sometimes short-handed on covering certain items but the ability to prioritize is paramount. Do that and you'll be just fine. I'm excited about the future of the company.

Pros

Good pay, good benefits, experienced but undervalued coworkers

Cons

Management based on fear, you are not allowed to use your experience and talent so as to continuously improve the company, you have to always comply with what the country manager says and believes, you have to get permission for everything you intend to do to the country manager, there is a horrible working environment, there is favoritism and nepotism, Stone Age culture, affiliates around the world not integrated and not working together, no global strategy, they call themselves a flavor company but they do not have a basic flavors R&D strategy, their flavor ingredients global supply chain is not aligned, despite their so called change from ingredient company to a flavor company, the fact is that they are still relying heavily in selling ingredients, if you are considering interviewing, please consider closely the above remarks and don't waste your valuable career in 2 or 3 years of wasted time.
