Pros

The best part of Sensient is leaving it. EVERYBODY that I know is happy about leaving this incredibly toxic place to work.

Cons

Be VERY skeptical of positive reviews about this company. I bet virtually all the positive reviews are solicited by upper management and issued under orders from the HR departments of the different divisions. This kind of duplicity is "par-for-the-course" for upper management at Sensient.; they always need to control ALL opinions about the company. All the positive reviews list as a negative something that an aggressive business professional might take as a positive..."very forma all the time" or "extremely high-paced business environment" or incredible support from upper management"". Milwaukee (and the Mannings) micromanage everything at the divisions. The stock price is built on a deck of cards - with all the major food manufacturers eliminating artificial FD&C food colors (a major product of the color division), the total control of SENSIENT pricing by HP of ink jet colors (another major product of the color division), the disorganization of the Flavor Division due to the incredibly unwise move from Indiana to Illinois and the loss of many critical manufacturing and sales personnel due to dissatisfaction with the company.

Pros

Sensient is definitely a great company for those looking for growth and opportunity. In just the few months that I have been here, I have already had the chance to manage projects that impact the global organization. Management puts faith in the people they hire, and it shows through the autonomy you are given and promotional opportunities available. Sensient is going through a sort of cultural transformation, which is really exciting to be a part of. Leadership is very accessible and open to feedback. Anyone can make an impact on the business here, and new ideas are welcomed and encouraged. The team here is very supportive and fun. Everyone wants to see you succeed, therefore everyone is very willing to help. It's easy to feel like you fit in from the first day. Good pay, unlimited sick days, a lot of paid holidays, food and drink in the breakroom, and the chance to travel are all nice perks!

Cons

Sensient is not for the faint of heart. This could be a pro or con, depending on how you look at it. It's a very challenging environment, and can be rather intimidating for a newcomer. The business is complex and learning it all can be a daunting task. There is a ton of work to be done, so coasting through the day and taking long lunches won't fly here. You have to truly dedicate yourself to the work. It's a business professional environment, so prepare to wear a suit every day (even friday!).

Pros

The best summary to my comments below; if you are a person who likes to be playing on the field when the game is going on and working hard to help your team win, this is the place for you. If you are a benchwarmer or armchair quarterback, no need to apply. 1. Rewarded for hard work and achieving results. 2. High culture of accountability - focused on exceeding our customer's expectations, which required a high caliber talent community who are not satisfied with average performance. 3. Opportunities to advance. I see this all the time, if you are good at what you do, you will be noticed and recognized. You have choices, you can consider opportunities outside of your normal area of expertise as well as the ability to relocate globally in 35 countries. 4. Smart people: my peer group is made up of intelligent driven professionals that make me better at what I do. 5. Fast paced. If you are frustrated working in an environment where it takes forever to have a decision made or action taken, you will not find that here. You have to be comfortable working and making decisions at a pace you may never have experience. Not for the faint of heart. 6. Having a voice. With the right information and support, you will have many opportunities to share you ideas to improve the business. The best part, since the organization is very flat, it does not take months to get things approved. 7. Pay and benefits are excellent.

Cons

One thing 25 years of experience in four different industries has taught me, no place is perfect, an 80% fit is an excellent match. 1. Fast paced. Both a pro and con. I am able to achieve more in my role that any in the past 20 years because of the pace. However, the organization could benefit from taking some time to ensure what is rolled out or initiated is absorbed and not focused on what is next. 2. Feedback. Under Paul's leadership, communication is greatly improving, there is much more that can be done. Inviting employees to share their feedback in various formats (online, surveys, meetings, etc.) is still needed.
