Pros

The benefits here is very nice. Most of the house staff are great people. Some of the physicians are a difficult.

Cons

You must request time off from work far in advance. There is little opportunity for professional growth. If you are looking to climb pr get more responsibility, this may not be the place.

Pros

Insurance premiums are decent although they have been going up each year for the past 5 years I have been there.

Cons

Sentara Healthcare will post ads in the career section of the news paper "as the place to build your career", then you do the interview without being told of the hourly rate of hire. Once hired you then find out how low the pay is for the responsibility they want you to take on. I currently have no choice as a single mother I have bills to pay and they know it. I have no shame in stating I am only making about 1.38 above minimum wage. 5 years???

Pros

The pay is good, the benefits are nice. I have rarely ever had any vacation requests denies. When emergencies come up management is very understanding of the need to pick up and go. For the most part my coworkers all great people and always willing to help out wherever and with whatever is needed.

Cons

I feel that management sometimes has a problem with favoritism. If there is ever an employee that gets in trouble for something, management rarely lets the person tell there side of the story. It could just be a misunderstanding but harsher action is sometimes taken. There are times when employees are asked there opinions about certain things but completely disregarded and the opposite is done. And something that isn't such a big deal is our food options. I wish that we had a few more options when working shifts other than first. Limited and not always super healthy. Maybe also having a specialty shop such as coffee or a restaurant in the hospital would be nice.
