The Best Place to Work for Me

Pros

I've had my eye on working for this organization for several years, and with Sharpen's recent growth it finally made sense for me to join the company. Now that I have been here awhile I have found working here is even better than I anticipated. The number one reason why I am grateful to work at Sharen is because of the level of talent and passion I am surrounded by, it really is an "iron sharpens iron" situation. I also value the fact that each employee contributes value to the company in any way they can, you are not limited to your job function. The benefits are awesome - I pay nothing for my family's health insurance premiums, unlimited PTO, and the casual dress code makes my work/life balance really nice. The stocked kitchen is another plus I didn't realize I would enjoy so much. If nothing else, the product is a reason in itself to work here. The Sharpen platform is incredible, and that is not just our internal opinion, everyone who see it recognizes it. We are going to grow into a large organization and being on the ground floor of that is very exciting. Finally, it is just plain fun to work here. We have a great group of smart, friendly people that truly enjoy each other. Whether it's trivia night, Friday breakfasts, a handlebar hot lap, or any other social function there is always something to participate in - and everyone is welcome.

Cons

Working at a startup is not for everyone. Each and every employee is tasked with moving the company forward, so there is no easy day. For some, it is incredibly rewarding, others might get burnt out. The other reality of working in a startup is that every dollar matters. Sharpen does sponsor a lot of fun activities, but is not frivolous with cash. If you like working for large corporations that give you a new t-shirt every week, allow crazy expenses, or extravagant president's club trips, you'll miss those things at Sharpen.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences here! I am happy we are able to provide benefits/perks that are relevant to you. Sharpen has worked hard to figure out what benefits can add the most value so it is nice hearing this feedback. Couldn't agree more regarding your "advice to management" and it may be more challenging as we grow and scale but continuing to advocate, especially internally too, will help. Providing this type of honest info in our company surveys and meetings gets visibility all the way up to the top and has an even greater impact. Keep being awesome! Sincerely, HR Director Sharpen

Pros

Most people I work with care about the effort that they're putting into what they do. It's invigorating to have a culture that gets things done. I feel like I can go to anyone and propose something and we'd be working on it quickly even across departments. They definitely succeed with the hiring, since most people are extremely friendly and I think no one feels isolated at their desk. It's an honor that I can be a part of a company that has such a bright future. I want to help actively shape their success.

Cons

There could be more all company events to encourage more interaction. It's just a personal opinion, since I enjoy learning about the people that I work with.

Well hello there! There are so many parts in this post that stand out but my favorite two, "I want to help actively shape their success." and "I genuinely feel like they care about me." You showcased two of our core values, dependability and community, and am glad you feel it. Each and every day our team has the ability to help shape success for our company and I hope you have continued to have chances to do so and feel your impact. If you want even more, please partner with HR to figure out specific initiatives or programs you can try! Regarding a "buddy system," good thinking! As a matter of fact, next week we will be launching a true buddy/mentorship program with some additional opportunities for people to connect outside the office to help cultivate relationships amongst different departments. Please check it out and let us know if this is what you were thinking! Thank you for the suggestions, we appreciate it. HR Director Sharpen

Pros

This is far and away the best team I've ever worked on. Everyone is constantly trying to help and improve themselves and their team members. There's a general air of excitement here and I for one look forward to coming in everyday. The community here is great, and I regularly spend time after work with people in other departments.

Cons

The excitement that comes with working at a place like this also comes with some added pressure, but nothing terrible.
