Pros

+ Company looks great on your CV + Job will force you to learn quickly and think on your feet + Huge challenge ...... if you can call it that!

Cons

- Many important Finance functions have been off-shored which limits control - Finance is not embedded with business so people have poor visibility of actuals. - Massive turnover rate of finance personnel in Philippines, India and Poland so little knowledge there is, is retained. - Multiple finance systems across multiple companies within Shell create inherent inefficiencies and complexities when accounting and trading, - Finance staff within the America's and Europe have the type of skills and experience needed to understand or use the finance systems effectively.

Pros

Industry leader. Great brand recognition. Excellent development programmes and opportunities for staff at all levels. Emphasis on work life balance and working sustainably. Magnificent office setup with great facilities (PS4,pool tables, 24 hour state of the art gym and much more). Departmental and centre activities all year round (despite cost cutting measures due to falling oil prices). Leaders are generally dedicated to the development and wellbeing of each and every staff, with frequent skip-level engagements. Although working in a shared service environment, staff are informed of their importance and how they impact business decisions, hence creating greater accountability in their day jobs. Highly performance oriented organisation with strong performance culture. Individual performance is highly correlated with bonus and increment. High performers are clearly distinguished from average and non performers in this sense. Many more roles and jobs are being migrated to the centre, allowing more growth opportunities with local and international mobility options. Company wide emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Multicultural workforce. Casual/smart wear allowed at work. High bonus payouts despite the lower for longer oil price environment, a reflection of the company's strong performance in the hostile external environment.

Cons

Senior team managers and operations managers have way too much power which may eventually result with interferences with staff individual development plans. Minor instances of favoritism and discrimination, causing loss of many highly competent staff. Staff are not allowed to move roles without prior consent of team leads/senior team managers. Defaulted role assignment of 3 to 4 years, hence easy for staff to fall into their comfort zones. It's a dog eat dog environment due to strong performance culture.
