Pros

The title says it all! Shepherd is a welcoming place and even though patients here are going through some of the most trying times of their lives, the mood is upbeat and hopeful. Management is both responsive and proactive. For example, they conduct a yearly employee satisfaction survey and truly consult it in making changes to benefit their employees. They are excellent at communicating the direction of the company and have provided clear guidance during the pandemic. Shepherd really values its employees and routinely demonstrates that in bonuses and fun events. Just this past year, they took the initiative to reevaluate the compensation for positions at every level and most saw a modest increase. Beyond its life-transforming mission, Shepherd Center is a employer that is constantly brainstorming for ways to increase employee satisfaction even further and I wouldn't want to work anywhere else!

Pros

Helping patients/clients/volunteers. Seeing patients improve. Connections with patients. Any and all things related to the patient improving, healing, becoming independent... Therapy techniques, creative methods for therapy, recreational ideas for patients/clients.

Cons

Lack of diversity, equity and inclusion. Low paying for any and all staff unless you're a Senior Management representative and/or a white employee. Minorities are paid properly or even given more opportunities to advance. Corporate culture needs help as it only cares about its reputation in the public and not actually doing what's right for its staff.

Shepherd Center Response

Hi, Thank you for sharing your comments. Over the past three years, we have conducted numerous compensation assessments resulting in organization-wide fair and equitable pay adjustments. You state "minorities are paid properly," so that's slightly confusing. Over the past year, we've realized a positive impact as a result of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council efforts. And we're looking forward to assessing the results of our currently active employee survey to continue our efforts in maintaining and encouraging a culture of employee engagement and satisfaction. Best regards, Shepherd Center Human Resources

Pros

I absolutely love working here, I have worked ICU, tele, M/S, PACU in various states, and this is hands down the best hospital I have worked at in the SE of the country. Great benefits, pay, and incentives, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Their policy is no-nonsense and no bullying. Rude staff does not last long in this wonderful, welcoming environment. I work per diem, and hope to stay at this job for as long as I live in Atlanta!

Cons

Sometimes we get out of ratio due to staffing shortages, but most of the time it's not a big problem because charge nurses and other nurses in the team help you out.
