Cons

Healthcare setting lends itself to being physically and emotionally challenging with risk of physical injury and compassion fatigue.

Pros

Shepherd Center does amazing work for and with our patients. Here, you really feel like you are making a difference. But it is also an amazing place to work. Management actually cares about the employees. Every opinion or idea is considered. They make sure we have everything we need to do our jobs. The patient to staff ratios are the best I have seen. Benefits are excellent. You really feel like part of a family!

Cons

I really can't think of any cons. For me, it is the long commute. But I happily drive it to work here!

Pros

The staff is extremely friendly. I always know that I can count on my co-workers to lend a hand if I need it. The job is incredibly emotionally rewarding. You get to watch your patients overcome significant emotional and physical barriers. The small things become the big things, you'll find yourself (and your patient and their family) crying over the ability to move a toe and it's AMAZING!

Cons

As emotionally rewarding as this job is, it is also emotionally taxing. It can be difficult to see the types of injuries and the emotional consequences that these injuries have on patients and their families. It's easy to feel guilty for being able to go home, spend time with your family, feed yourself, walk to your car. You may find yourself feeling bad about complaining about sore feet after being on them for 12 hours. There is also a physical demand with this job. A lot of our patients cannot support their own weight and the majority are fully grown adult males, that's a lot of weight to move around!
