Pros

When you staff your store with a great team, work can genuinely be fun. If you’re good, the extra bonus is nice, would be nicer if it weren’t taxed so heavily, but the company can’t control that.

Cons

No life. Not enough pay. Granted, working through a pandemic has been rough, but the issues were there way before that. 48 hours is a lot, and in my district, it’s “normal” to have to drive awhile to your store. I was/am working so much and was struggling with support regarding the lack of work/life balance that I gained 30 pounds coping in an unhealthy way. The base pay for store managers is low, and I realized I got played about 6 months after accepting the position, and have regularly asked for more pay...but to no avail. I run a store that has done amazing the two years I’ve been there, I’ve bonuses every quarter I’ve been there besides this current one due to lack of sales and other things we can’t control. But if you decide that you want work/life balance and apply for corporate, they act like you are committing treason. It’s disappointing because I bought into what they told me years ago when I started, but now I’m incredibly unhappy, and getting into corporate is almost impossible. Let alone, our CEO told us at the National Sales Meeting this past January that we are the ATMs of the company-like that was a compliment. I’ve never forgotten that. You get a lot of empty promises and when there’s an issue, they try to buy you lunch or booze to curb how pissed you are. I wish there was more support for employees like me when you’re trying to elevate your career, but can’t seem to take the next step forward because going corporate is allegedly the worst thing ever, but they won’t pay you what you’re worth or provide other incentives that you have clearly earned to try and keep you as a sales rep.

Pros

Decent benefits but overworked employees.

Cons

This company used to be great to work for however, Management has become extremely greedy ever since acquisition of Valspar. The Management has started placing managers in roles they are not qualified or understand the business and do not wish to understand business. Unqualified managers belittle, and bully those who do not get the result they want without understanding complexity of the problems. Initial feedback from managers is to turn a blind eye, belittle employees, attack their intelligence and emotional wellbeing. While this round of bullying has been occurring, encouraged by upper management, there is also no appreciation for amount of work employees do while constantly being short staffed and constant increase of workload. I had one manager tell me that I should be working more than 40 hours a week and should not have a personal life. Same boss has also explained that while on vacation, I should log in and get several hours of work completed. This according to him is considered a “benefit.” Lastly, it is not safe to discuss your opinions in this company as you will be brought down incessantly, until you leave the company. The culture has significantly gotten worse over the years and more specifically with acquisition of Valspar.

Pros

The only pros to this position are as follows: •freedom during downtime •weekends off That is literally it.

Cons

Where do I start? •job description explains the need to be able to carry up to 65 lbs (about what a full 5-gallon bucket of paint weighs), but does not mention that most orders consist of 10-20 of those and you have to hand load and unload all of those yourself •there will be days where you will have multiple big orders like that at a time •a lot of deliveries are to construction sites, usually a lot of them requiring you to carry big orders (like the example above) considerable distance from your vehicle •(a continuation of the above) if you work out of a high volume store, expect to have to carry orders of 50-100 gallons of paint into new construction buildings and homes. •many construction jobsites are unpaved. This requires you to carry all that heavy paint back and forth from your vehicle, stepping over and around obstacles while doing it •DISPATCHERS for our delivery service are inexperienced and lack basic knowledge on routing and actual transit times •sherwin Williams previously utilized an old delivery software that was purchased from UPS in the early 2000s. They now recently "upgraded" to a new software that was released back in 2014 •Fleet driver phones are supplied by the company to each driver. That device is how you are held liable for all of your deliveries throughout the day. Again, being from 2014, the technology and software is outdated and the device still runs pretty choppy (phone is manufactured by LG, unsure on exact model) •if you are driving a van and not a box truck, you will have it much worse since you won't even have a lift gate for ease of loading •vast majority of available driver positions are part-time so paychecks are mediocre at best
